IRYEF started as a direct intervention to address the high incidence of teenage pregnancy and school drop-outs in our community. A dear friend whose dream of becoming an aeronautical engineer was aborted at the age of 13 following complications from teenage pregnancy. Using the Peer-to-peer mentoring model, we started the School Invasion Project (SIP); which entails disseminating age appropriate sexual and reproductive health information for free. After visiting a few schools and interacting with the students, we discovered that the issue was beyond the lack of sex education; there were cases of young people in our community seeking self-expression through gangs, drugs, cultism and other vices. To tackle these, we developed a multi-platform approach.
